A night out in a great pub with your nearest and dearest pals is true joy, but there is a way to go one better than your traditional ‘feed of pints and a curry chips’ – and that’s going to a pub with board games.

Your most competitive friend will try to hide his rage as you best him at Connect 4 for the third time, and the group Jenga game will be as tense as an episode of House Of Cards. No need to roll the dice and take a chance on the perfect place (allow us the pun), as we’ve compiled a handy list of the best pubs in Dublin for some board game fun.

The Black Sheep

This Capel Street gem has one of the most extensive drinks menus in the city, so you and your friends will be sure to find the right tipple to go with your Buckaroo tournament. Here’s how you can book a table.

The Back Page

This Phibsboro pub is a destination in and of itself, and has a whole heap of delightful table games for your perusal. They even run a chess social if you want to work on your skills (and finally beat that friend who boasts about winning a little TOO much). Check it out!

This Rathmines bar opened its doors a few short years ago and has proved to be a popular spot. Their outdoor area is always nice and toasty, a perfect spot for some intense Scrabble fights to inevitably kick off.  Take a peek.

The Square Ball

Even your pickiest pals will find a fun game to play from The Square Ball’s gigantic collection. You could even make a day of it. In particular we feel we must recommend that you try out Catan, you’ll be there for hours! Wanna play?

Chill out in this Westmoreland Street bar… until your game of Guess Who turns into a tense battle of wills. Then you might need a mediator. Have a gander!

L Mulligan Grocer’s

A Stoneybatter landmark, Mulligan’s has a whole host of board games to try out, as well as some of the best food you can eat in Dublin. Sounds good, right?

The Lotts

A great example of what a traditional Irish pub should be, The Lotts Snug on Lower Liffey is a great place for Pictionary pints. Great pub grub, too. Check out more here!

This hip Clanbrassil Street venue is perfect if you and your mates want to get really strategic with a game or two of chess, and their tasty bar bites will help keep you focused on the game. Find out more here.

  1. There also 4 Dame Lane which has table tennis and fußball upstairs. As well as loads of board games including chess, card games and savage music! I don’t work there but am a regular. This should be in this list!
